Authorities stated they were contacted by a man who noticed a vehicle in Hanau marked with reddish fluid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Cars, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement state they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored fluid.

The substance had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.

Officers then located many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Police state preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no lead as to where it came from; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they stated.

City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.

A high-ranking official stated the incident left him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.

"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
