The buzz surrounding this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included intense imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction implies that the team might be building a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—elements that subsequently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is familiar fare, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with specialized paths you can achieve with a distinct build with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, letting players to experiment throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be approached in multiple ways, sometimes in unexpected fashion.
- You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
