He stated that the MoD is “investigating” Chinese vehicles within its vehicle pools, but emphasised that safety is a issue in every contemporary vehicles.

We have a collection of tens of thousands of cars in the MoD and those vehicles account for a tiny fraction.
But whether you’re driving a vehicle from China or a car from another country, what we’ve asked our people is to avoid connecting Ministry of Defence technology into their vehicle, not to have discussions at a classified classification in any car, due to the increasing risks of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in protected areas. This is a prudent and sensible thing for everyone concerned about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be wise for the ministry to stop using every cars from China, Pollard responded: ‘That’s precisely what we’re investigating at the moment.”

Wider Security Context

This announcement comes as reports from Scandinavian countries have alerted the United Kingdom to the presence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable China to disable public transport and cause disruption to public transit.
